Iris Laevigata prefers to be planted in standing water in full sun. It has permanent white green variegation and blooms inl ate spring.

Iris pseudacorus - Yellow Flag     6" scotch pot $6.99 each

 

The yellow flag can reach a height of 2½ - 5 ft.  This Iris blooms from May through June on stalks that can have 4-12 flowers.  The Yellow Flag prefers to be planted in full sun and as it is a true water Iris, can be planted directly into the pond year round.

Blooms in June and July with the blooms sometimes lasting several days. Prefers full sun and plenty of moisture in the summer but should have some drainage in the winter to avoid root rot.

Iris versicolor - American Blue Flag

The American Blue Flag Iris has leaves that can grow to 2ft. long and has flower clusters on stems that are 1½ - 2½ ft. tall with 2-4 flowers on each stem. It prefers to be planted in full sun with up to 6 inches of water over the crown.

Iris virginica prefers sandy soils and shallow water with full sun. This variety has striking bold purple and green variegated foilage in the spring before flowering. Variegation fades into summer.

The Louisianna iris’s are naturally found in warm and wet habitats of the south west Louisianna marsh lands as well as marshy areas from Texas to Florida along the Gulf Coast. This iris typically has flower stalks that are from 2-4 ft. high and produce 5-7 blooms that last between 2-3 days.  This iris prefers to be in water up to 6 inches deep in a sunny location. Flowers are dark purple to black.
